Being part of the community through many of the people-centred programmes at the heart of the organization makes us believe we have a duty towards humanity in times of crises. Through our humanitarian & social relief programme – we strive to provide amenities and other necessities to affected communities. We are particularly touched by the plight of women and girls as they bear the brunt of natural disasters .
The initiative has managed to reach over 50 000 people through our door-to-door and food distribution, we also distributed over 2000 sanitizers and over 500 seeds to some of the community members in the Eastern Cape & Gauteng collectively. We had an effective cooperation and met with community leaders, traditional leaders, councillors, Mayors & provincial departments. The campaign was guided by the following pillars ;
SAYM was contracted by the DG Murray Trust to implement the project of mobilization of local communities in support of the COVID-19 vaccination programme in 4 Districts in 2021. The areas covered in the project were Gauteng, Bojanala, Harry Gwala and Joe Qhabi from September to December 2021. SAYM also included 2 more provinces being Free State in Mangaung District and EThekwini Metropolitan Municipality to make a total of 6 Districts nationally.
The project recorded major successes particularly in attracting young people in most districts. The table below gives the statistics per district as shared by the area-based Department of Health. The data refers to the number of people that came to be vaccinated after the project team started mobilization activities leading up to the end of the main event. All Events were addressed by Department of Health officials and social influencers in the arts industry being Kelly Khumalo in Harry Gwala district (KZN), Pastor A & Ntate Modiri of Crazy Entertainers Comedians in Ekurhuleni district (Gauteng), Teddy & Ntokozo from Mzansi best Telenovela Gomora on Mzansi Magic in Bojanala district (North West), Oscar Award winner of movie “Tsotsi” Presley Chweneyagae who is also on the best Telenovela in Mzansi “The River” playing character of Cobrizi and also SAYM Ambassador went to Joe Qhabi district (Eastern Cape).
We have established dynamic soup kitchens in different sites to complement projects/programmes we are implementing in that area. In addition to delivering food parcels in Witbank we also took time to cook and share a hot meal with the homeless people who have camped at a dumpsite.
